Opened in 1978 on Oranienstraße in Kreuzberg, SO36 (Südost 36) it was Berlin's equivalent of CBGB. Einstürzende Neubauten filmed a 1982 performance here that circulated on bootleg VHS tapes across Europe. Blixa Bargeld worked as a barman at the nearby Risiko bar between shows. In 2025, awarded the Applaus Prize for best live music venue in Germany. Still active.
