This studio at 4 Denmark Street opened in 1961 in a small room above the offices of Essex Music. Between January 3 and February 25, 1964, the Rolling Stones recorded their entire debut album here. Rumor has it that the Stones never paid for their studio time. The Kinks recorded the demos for You Really Got Me here. The Jimi Hendrix Experience, David Bowie, Black Sabbath recorded their first two albums and Genesis recorded From Genesis to Revelation here. It closed in the 1980s. Today it is a guitar shop, Regent Sounds, which keeps the name and displays historical photos of the studio on its walls. Still active at the same address.
