Handel & Hendrix House

The Story

This is the terraced house at 25 Brook Street where George Frideric Handel lived from 1723 until his death in 1759, composing the Messiah and Zadok the Priest. Jimi Hendrix arrived in London in 1966, discovered by former The Animals bassist Chas Chandler, who formed the Jimi Hendrix Experience around him with Noel Redding and Mitch Mitchell. After a period living in a borrowed apartment at 34 Montagu Square (the same building rented by Ringo Starr), Hendrix and his girlfriend Kathy Etchingham moved, in 1968, to the house next to Handel's, at number 23, where they lived until 1969. He called the place "the only home I ever had." Both apartments are now a great museum open to the public.
