Praça da Liberdade

Pato Fu, Milton Nascimento, Clube da Esquina

1897

The Story

This square was designed during the foundation of Belo Horizonte, between 1895 and 1897. Today, it is the starting point for tourism routes dedicated to Clube da Esquina, a movement that brought together Milton Nascimento, the Borges brothers, and Fernando Brant in Belo Horizonte in the 1960s. It also became a live music venue, hosting Pato Fu alongside Orquestra Ouro Preto in 2023 for the "Rotorquestra de Liquidificafu" concert, celebrating the band's 30th anniversary, and will host the group again in September 2026 for the Laços Festival. Listed as a state heritage site since 1977, it remains one of Belo Horizonte's main postcards and open-air stages.
