Museu de Arte da Pampulha

Pato Fu

2002

The Story

This building, inaugurated in 1943 in Pampulha Lagoon, was designed by Oscar Niemeyer to be a luxury casino, and the gardens were laid out by Burle Marx. The prohibition of gambling in Brazil in 1946 closed the casino's doors for about ten years, until the space reopened in 1957 as the Pampulha Art Museum. In 2002, Pato Fu recorded the live album MTV ao Vivo: No Museu de Arte da Pampulha here, one of the band's most remembered records. Recognized by UNESCO as a World Heritage Site in 2016, the museum has been closed for a complete restoration since 2019, but the gardens remain open for visitation.
