Polo Field / Human Be-In

Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company

1967

The Story

This polo field was where approximately 20,000 people gathered on January 14, 1967, for the Human Be-In, one of the events that served as a prelude to the Summer of Love. Grateful Dead, Jefferson Airplane, Big Brother and the Holding Company, and Quicksilver Messenger Service played here. Almost six decades later, in August 2025, the Polo Field hosted Dead & Company for three shows celebrating the band's 60th anniversary, reuniting Bob Weir and Mickey Hart, then the only original members still alive. These were Bob Weir's last shows before his death in January 2026.
