Paul McCartney Wimpole Street

Paul McCartney, The Beatles

· 1963–1964

The Story

The home of McCartney's girlfriend, Jane Asher's parents, where he lived between 1963 and 1966 after moving from Liverpool. It was here that Sir Paul McCartney wrote Yesterday. He woke up with the melody in his head and immediately went to the piano so he wouldn't forget it. He spent weeks trying to figure out if he'd heard that tune somewhere else before. The guest bedroom in the house was also where John Lennon used to stay when he visited.
