Palácio das Artes

Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, Toninho Horta, Flávio Venturini

The Story

This cultural complex was designed by Oscar Niemeyer at the request of Mayor Juscelino Kubitschek, with construction starting in 1942 and halting for decades until the inauguration of the Grand Theater in 1971. It is the largest center for artistic production and dissemination in Minas Gerais and one of the largest in Latin America. Over the decades, it has hosted performances and tributes to the main names of Clube da Esquina, including concerts bringing together Milton Nascimento, Lô Borges, Beto Guedes, Toninho Horta, and Flávio Venturini. On November 4, 2025, the Palácio das Artes hosted Lô Borges' wake, with fans gathering outside and following the procession along Avenida Afonso Pena, singing "O Trem Azul" and "Paisagem da Janela" in unison to bid farewell to the composer.
