The Story

This studio was founded in 1972 in an old department store building in North Hollywood, and became known for having one of the best drum rooms in Los Angeles. It was there that Metallica recorded two consecutive albums: ...And Justice for All, in 1988, and the following album, simply titled Metallica and known as the Black Album. Lars Ulrich chose the room searching for the live drum sound he heard on Mötley Crüe's Dr. Feelgood, produced by Bob Rock, who also ended up producing Metallica's album. Over the decades, the studio also hosted KISS, Megadeth, Ozzy Osbourne, Bon Jovi, Alice in Chains, and Aretha Franklin, among many others.
