Nico, Velvet Underground
1988
Christa Päffgen, known as Nico, is buried here at Grunewald Forest Cemetery with her mother. She died in Ibiza in July 1988 due to a bicycle fall, which caused a head injury. Raised in Berlin, she sold lingerie at KaDeWe before Andy Warhol invited her to be part of the film Chelsea Girls, and she became the most distinctive voice of the Velvet Underground, going on to release solo material.
