The Story

This is the luxury department store where Christa Päffgen, who would become Nico, the vocalist of The Velvet Underground, sold lingerie and worked as a model before being discovered by Andy Warhol in New York. Born in Cologne and raised in Berlin, Nico is buried in the Grunewald Forest Cemetery. Bowie referenced the store in "Where Are We Now?". "Near KaDeWe." It is still one of the largest department stores in Europe.
