The Story

This building, inaugurated in 1968, was the last work constructed by the pioneering modernist architect Ludwig Mies van der Rohe. In January 2015, Kraftwerk occupied the main hall for eight consecutive nights for the concert series Der Katalog 1 2 3 4 5 6 7 8, playing one full album per night, in chronological order, with 3D projections. The event was also a kind of farewell to the original space, which closed soon after for a renovation led by British architect David Chipperfield. The museum reopened to the public in August 2021, restored with fidelity to the original design.
