Majestic Ballroom

The Beatles

The Story

This venue opened in 1916 as Birkenhead Picture House, became the Gaumont cinema in 1928, and in 1956, was converted into a ballroom. The Beatles performed here 17 times between June 28, 1962, and April 10, 1963, the band's longest run of shows at a single venue outside the Cavern Club. For the final performances, due to high ticket demand, shows began to have two sessions on the same night, something unprecedented in ballrooms at the time, although common in cinemas and theaters. The building still stands on Conway Street with a plaque and today houses a Chinese supermarket.
