Tower Ballroom

The Beatles, Little Richard

1961

The Story

This old ballroom operated beneath a 173-meter tower called New Brighton Tower, becoming a meeting place with a capacity for up to 5,000 people on the New Brighton waterfront. Between November 1961 and June 1963, The Beatles played there 27 times, making the Tower Ballroom one of the stages the band frequented after the Cavern Club. It was also here, in October 1962, that the band shared the lineup with Little Richard, an event with twelve acts and five and a half hours of duration. The tower itself had already been demolished decades earlier, but the ballroom survived until it was destroyed by a fire in 1969. The area became River View Park and has a commemorative plaque.
