The Story

The corner in downtown Olympia where K Records and the Dub Narcotic Studio stand side by side, the epicenter of the Pacific Northwest indie and Riot Grrrl underground since the early 1980s. Calvin Johnson founded K Records here in 1982. Across the street, the Red House was where Beck, Sleater-Kinney, and Kathleen Hanna's Julie Ruin made some of their first recordings. Kurt Cobain had the K Records logo tattooed on his forearm as a declaration of loyalty to the Olympia scene.
