The Story

This is a corner in downtown Olympia linked to K Records, the epicenter of the city's indie underground and riot grrrl scene. Calvin Johnson founded K Records here in 1982. Years later, he would also create Dub Narcotic Studio, which would become a natural extension of that same musical universe. Across the street, the Red House was where bands like Sleater-Kinney recorded some of their first sessions. Kurt Cobain had the K Records logo tattooed on his forearm as a declaration of loyalty to the Olympia scene.
