John Lennon, Yoko Ono
In September 1980, Japanese photographer Kishin Shinoyama spent five days with John Lennon and Yoko Ono in New York, photographing the two for the cover of Double Fantasy. One of the sessions took place here, on a bench beside The Lake in Central Park, near 72nd Street, very close to the Dakota where the couple lived. It was late afternoon, with few people around. Shinoyama asked them to kiss. The black and white photo of the kiss became the cover of Double Fantasy, released on November 17, 1980. The color photos from the same session were used on the cover of 1984's Milk and Honey, released three years after Lennon's murder. John Lennon was killed at the entrance of the Dakota on December 8, 1980, three weeks after the album's release.
