Jimi Hendrix Park

Jimi Hendrix

2017

The Story

This is a park in the Central District near where Hendrix grew up, featuring a timeline of his life, a butterfly garden, and the Shadow Wave Wall. It opened in 2017 after years of fundraising led by Jimi's sister, Janie Hendrix. Hendrix grew up poor in this neighborhood, living between cheap hotel rooms and the homes of friends and relatives, with his guitar on his back. He was often seen skipping class on these very streets.
