Hyde Park is the largest open-air stage in English rock history, in the heart of London. The first big rock concert happened here on June 29, 1968, with Pink Floyd, Tyrannosaurus Rex, Jethro Tull, and Roy Harper performing for 15,000 people. On June 7, 1969, Eric Clapton and Steve Winwood’s Blind Faith made their debut here for 100,000 people. On July 5, 1969, The Rolling Stones played two days after Brian Jones’ death for an estimated crowd of 250,000 to 500,000 people, the largest free concert in British history at the time. Queen played here for free in 1976 during the recording of *A Day at the Races* for 150,000 people. On July 2, 2005, Live 8 brought together Madonna, U2, and Pink Floyd, marking the first time in 24 years that Pink Floyd played with Roger Waters. The Rolling Stones returned in 2013, 44 years later, and today the park annually hosts the British Summer Time festival. These coordinates mark where the Live 8 stage was located.
