The Arches Heaven Nightclub

The Story

London's most famous nightclub has been operating under the arches of Charing Cross station since 1979, when Jeremy Norman transformed the decaying venue into a multi-room club. Pet Shop Boys performed a unique show here in 1991. Madonna and Cher also performed here. New Order played their first London show here in 1981, and Nick Cave, with his original band The Birthday Party, and Throbbing Gristle played in the early years. In 2020, it was declared an Asset of Community Value, protecting the space from real estate speculation for five years.
