1978-1992
This old nightclub opened in 1978 on Rua Marquês de Itu, becoming one of the most important spots in the city's gay nightlife. On March 20, 1981, Queen played two historic shows at Morumbi Stadium, gathering 131,000 people on the first night and 120,000 on the second, the largest paying audiences the band had ever had in their career up to that point. After one of the performances, Freddie Mercury went to Homo Sapiens and stole the show by taking off his clothes and dancing in just his speedos, one of the most remembered episodes in the history of São Paulo's LGBTQ+ nightlife. The nightclub lasted until 1992 when it closed its doors. Today, ABC Bailão operates in the same location.
