Teatro Cultura Artística

The Story

Opened in 1950, the Teatro Cultura Artística was the most important concert venue in São Paulo for more than half a century. It hosted jazz recitals, MPB milestones, and classical performances that defined the city’s cultural life. It was destroyed by a fire on August 17, 2008, the cause of which was never officially clarified. The fire consumed much of the building, sparing only Di Cavalcanti's panel "Alegoria das Artes" on the façade. Reconstruction took sixteen years. The new theater reopened in August 2024, at the same address.
