Vale do Anhangabaú

1991

The Story

The downtown valley where São Paulo's largest public free events have been held for decades. It was there that the biggest rally in the country's history took place, Diretas Já, in 1984, gathering about 1.5 million people. Today, under the Novo Anhangabaú project, the space offers an almost daily and free cultural program, from samba circles and rap battles to large electronic parties such as Music On. It is also one of the main hubs of Virada Cultural, the largest free cultural festival in Brazil, which has occupied the Valley since 2005 and brings together millions of people in 24 uninterrupted hours of programming.
