The Story

The Hammersmith Odeon, now officially called the Eventim Apollo, is a historic live entertainment venue in the Hammersmith district of London. Opened in 1932 as the Gaumont Palace cinema, it transformed into one of the most well-known concert halls in the United Kingdom. It was there that David Bowie retired his alter ego Ziggy Stardust in 1973, announcing live and without prior notice that it would be his last show. Queen played historic Christmas shows in 1975 and 1979, Bruce Springsteen made his UK debut there in 1975, and Kate Bush performed during her first tour in 1979. The original 1932 pipe organ is still installed and in working order at the venue.
