Bowie Childhood Home

David Bowie

1955-1968

The Story

This house in Brixton is where David Bowie was born on January 8, 1947, and spent the first six years of his life, until the family moved to Bromley in 1953. The house is close to the famous Bowie mural on Tunstall Road, inspired by the cover of the album Aladdin Sane, which became a public shrine after his death in January 2016. Bowie will not be able to receive an English Heritage Blue Plaque before 2036. English Heritage requires 20 years since death to grant the honor.
