Great American Music Hall

Jerry Garcia, Grateful Dead, Journey

Est. 1907

The Story

Opened in 1907 after the 1906 earthquake, it was originally a restaurant, casino, and brothel before becoming a jazz club, burlesque house, and finally a concert venue in 1972. Ornate marble pillars, surrounding box seats, and frescoed ceilings make it one of the most beautiful small music rooms in San Francisco. Journey debuted their lineup with Steve Perry here in 1974. Jerry Garcia played here 30 times. Still active.
