Gate's Pub

Rock de Brasília

1978–2010s

The Story

The pub in the commercial block of 403 Sul, a replica of a London pub founded in 1978, became one of the most important music venues in Asa Sul starting in 1988, when it came under the management of Rubens Carvalho, who brought an eclectic program of jazz, blues, rock, and MPB. Throughout its history, it hosted over 3,000 shows and names such as Toninho Horta, Luiz Melodia, Tom Zé, Angela Ro Ro, and even the French artist Manu Chao. Many local bands played here before gaining national recognition, especially those that emerged in the early 90s. It closed around 2010.
