Bob Dylan, Joan Baez, Dave Van Ronk
· 1950s–1960s
The park at the heart of Greenwich Village was the gathering place for the New York folk scene in the 1950s and early 1960s. Bob Dylan, Joan Baez and Dave Van Ronk all busked and performed around the arch and fountain. Dylan described Washington Square Park as the place where he first found his people. The Sunday folk sessions under the arch drew crowds of hundreds.
