Founded by producer Liminha (Arnolpho Lima Filho) and Gilberto Gil in the Jardim Botânico hills in the mid-1980s, Nas Nuvens was the great hitmaking laboratory of Brazilian rock and MPB. Cabeça Dinossauro by the Titãs, Selvagem? by the Paralamas do Sucesso, Raça Humana by Gilberto Gil, and dozens of other defining records were made here. Liminha, who played bass with the Mutantes and later produced nearly 200 albums, described the studio as Brazil's equivalent of Sun Records. Sepultura also recorded here.
