Estádio Mané Garrincha

Legião Urbana, Iron Maiden, Faith no More, Porão do Rock, Mamonas Assassinas

1988

The Story

The national stadium became part of rock history when Legião Urbana's show on June 18, 1988, ended in chaos. Fifty thousand people went to Mané Garrincha to see the band return to their hometown. The show lasted only 58 minutes and eight songs before the band abandoned the stage. Clashes with military police resulted in 400 injured, 70 detained, and 64 buses destroyed. Legião Urbana never performed in Brasília again. On March 2, 1996, Mamonas Assassinas played their last show here at Mané Garrincha. Faith No More, Iron Maiden, and Lenny Kravitz also took this stage over the years, solidifying the stadium as the largest venue for major shows in Brasília. The Mané Garrincha stadium parking lot also hosted several editions of the Porão do Rock Festival.
