The Story

Eleanor Rigby was born in Liverpool in 1895, worked as a domestic servant, married a railway worker named Thomas Woods, and died on October 10, 1939, at the age of 44. Her tombstone at St. Peter's went unnoticed for decades, until fans realized that John Lennon and Paul McCartney had passed through that same cemetery in their teenage years. Paul McCartney always said that the name in the song came from his imagination. He also admitted that there's no way he can be sure.
