The Story

Eleanor Rigby was born in Liverpool in 1895, worked as a domestic servant, married a railway worker named Thomas Woods, and died on October 10, 1939, at the age of 44. Her tombstone in St Peter's went unnoticed for decades, until fans realized that John Lennon and Paul McCartney used to pass through this same cemetery in their adolescence. Paul McCartney always said that the song name came from his imagination. He also admitted that there's no way to be sure.
