Duff's Brooklyn Metal Bar

The Story

The heavy metal bar, located at 168 Marcy Avenue, in the Williamsburg neighborhood of Brooklyn, opened in 1999 in Hell's Kitchen before moving to Brooklyn in 2004, and then to this specific address in 2008, after gentrification forced another move. A significant part of the decor pays homage to local rocker Peter Steele, establishing an intense heavy metal atmosphere, with floor-to-ceiling metal memorabilia, framed guitars, signed drumheads, and concert flyers. The bar houses a custom-made Peter Steele Type O Negative replica bass guitar, delivered on Halloween, Peter Steele's favorite holiday, and the date on which the bar usually holds its annual tribute to him. The band Type O Negative were regular patrons.
