The Story

The cover art was photographed in what is now Brooklyn Bridge Park, with the Brooklyn Bridge visible in the background. The album was recorded and mixed at Systems Two studio, in Brooklyn, NY. Written after a series of deaths in Peter Steele's family, it is considered the band's darkest album. The photograph of the bridge with its greenish hue has become one of the most recognized images in gothic metal. The exact location, now near Jane's Carousel on the DUMBO waterfront, still looks virtually identical.
