The Story

The SoHo loft building where David Bowie lived with his wife Iman and daughter Alexandria from the late 1990s until his death on 10 January 2016. Bowie chose New York as his permanent home in the 1990s, describing it as the only city where he could walk down the street without being followed. He died here two days after the release of his final album Blackstar. The building became a spontaneous memorial site after his death, with fans leaving flowers, candles and tributes on the pavement outside.
