David Bowie's Apartment

David Bowie

2002-2016

The Story

The loft-style building in SoHo where David Bowie lived full-time with his wife Iman and their daughter Alexandria from 2002 until his death on January 10, 2016. Bowie chose New York as his permanent home, saying he felt like a "semi-anonymous" New Yorker, free to walk the streets undisturbed. He died here two days after the release of his final album, Blackstar. The building became a site of spontaneous tribute after his death, with fans leaving flowers, candles, and memorials on the sidewalk outside.
