Renato Russo, Legião Urbana
1979
This Cultura Inglesa unit has educated generations of English students in the city, and one of its teachers was musician and composer Renato Russo, who worked here for about three years before gaining national fame with Legião Urbana. His familiarity with the English language and literature helped him connect with post-punk and new wave bands like The Cure, Joy Division, The Smiths, and Sex Pistols, which shaped Legião's sound. The classroom where Renato taught is still preserved. Members of Turma da Colina also frequented the unit's art cinema, further piquing the intellectual curiosity of the young punks. An official stop on the Brasília Capital do Rock Route.
