Cidade do Samba

Escolas de Samba

2005

The Story

Officially inaugurated in 2006, although schools had been occupying the space since September 2005, the Cidade do Samba (Samba City) is a complex in the port area with 12 four-story warehouses where the Special Group samba schools build their floats and costumes year-round, in addition to two administrative spaces for Liesa. Open for guided tours outside of Carnival season, visitors can walk through the ateliers where carpenters, sculptors, seamstresses, and painters work on the next year's parade. It is one of the largest popular culture ateliers in the world.
