Escolas de Samba

Inaugurated in 2005 in the port zone, the Cidade do Samba is a complex of 14 six-story warehouses where the Special Group schools build their floats and costumes year-round. Open for guided visits outside carnival season, visitors can walk through the studios where carpenters, sculptors, seamstresses and painters work simultaneously on next year's parade. It is the world's largest popular culture atelier.
