Nirvana, Soundgarden, Alice in Chains
Est. 1988
Seattle's oldest continuously operating bar, opened in 1892, three years after the Great Fire that burned the city. On 16 April 1988, Nirvana played their first-ever Seattle show here. It was that night that Bruce Pavitt and Jonathan Poneman saw them for the first time and decided to sign them to Sub Pop. The walls are still lined with photos and flyers from when Seattle briefly seemed like the centre of the musical universe.
