Central 1926

The Story

This building was constructed in 1926 as the city's Central Power Substation, decommissioned in 2004, and abandoned for almost a decade. Between 2013 and 2019, it housed the Red Bull Station, a cultural platform for artistic residencies. In March 2022, producer Chico Lowndes reopened the space as Central 1926, which now hosts about 200 events per year. Since 2023, the same address has also been home to Estúdio Central and the Central Records label, which has welcomed artists such as Emicida, Elza Soares, Liniker, and Criolo, earning four Latin Grammy awards. It remains active, one of the main venues for rap, funk, and electronic music in downtown São Paulo.
