The Story

The mansion on Venâncio Aires Street, in the industrial neighborhood of Pompeia, was where Arnaldo and Sérgio Dias Baptista grew up. Their mother Clarisse, who was a classical pianist, taught them music theory from childhood. Their father, César, was a poet, journalist, and amateur opera singer. In 1966, the two brothers and their neighbor Rita Lee formed Os Mutantes in this very house. The band was the most visionary in Brazilian rock at the time and one of the most influential in the world. Kurt Cobain even wrote a letter to Arnaldo in 1993, declaring his admiration.
