The Story

Tom Jobim lived in this building between 1952 and 1962. It was here that he formed the partnerships with Vinicius de Moraes and João Gilberto that would give rise to Bossa Nova. On the third floor lived the singer Elizeth Cardoso, who in 1958 recorded *Canção do Amor Demais*, considered the first Bossa Nova album in history. Toquinho and Vinicius immortalized the address in their song *Carta ao Tom*: "Rua Nascimento Silva, cento e sete / E você ensinando pra Elizete / As canções de Canção do Amor Demais" (Nascimento Silva Street, one hundred and seven / And you teaching Elizete / The songs from Canção do Amor Demais). The building is listed as a Cultural Heritage site of Rio de Janeiro and has a commemorative blue plaque.
