Carmen Miranda

Carmen Miranda was born in Portugal in 1909 and arrived in Rio at ten months old. She became the queen of radio and samba in the 1930s, was discovered at the Urca Casino by an American producer in 1939, and left for Broadway unaware that she wouldn't return to Brazil for 14 years. She died in Beverly Hills in 1955, at the age of 46. The Carmen Miranda Museum in Flamengo Park, which we also have here in the App, is worth a visit.
