The Story

This museum operates within the Cunard Building, the former passenger terminal of the Cunard shipping company. It is the only museum in the United Kingdom entirely dedicated to British music, telling the story of rock and pop from 1945 to the present day through over 600 original artifacts. Stage costumes worn by Mick Jagger, Freddie Mercury, Dusty Springfield, Adam Ant, and the Spice Girls share space with instruments from Roger Taylor of Queen, Marc Bolan, Ian Curtis, and the Sex Pistols. The original Brit Awards statues and the entrance door to the Apple Corps headquarters on Savile Row are also on display here. Originally opened in London, inside the O2, the museum moved to Liverpool in 2017. In the Gibson Studio, visitors can play guitar, drums, and keyboard, and there are also dance studios and vocal recording booths. A special section is dedicated to Merseybeat, the sound that put Liverpool on the map in the 60s with the Beatles, Cilla Black, Gerry & the Pacemakers, and The Searchers.
