This windowless space became a rehearsal studio behind the Black Dog Forge blacksmith shop, founded by Louie Raffloer in 1989 in an alley between Second and Third Avenues. Eddie Vedder arrived straight from the airport from San Diego in October 1990 and was brought there to rehearse for the first time with Stone Gossard, Jeff Ament, and Mike McCready. The band, still called Mookie Blaylock, composed much of what would become the album *Ten* there. Soundgarden, Temple of the Dog, and Presidents of the United States of America also rehearsed in the same basement over the following years. Louie Raffloer and his partner Mary Gioia lived with the noise for decades without knowing that the birth of one of the greatest bands in rock history was happening there. In 2017, the building was put up for sale due to gentrification.
