This bar operated as a bodega until it was converted into a music venue in 1995, maintaining the original grocery store facade as its visual identity to this day. It was opened by Shane Doyle, the same founder of Sin-é, along with two partners, in what was a dangerous and infrequently visited part of the Lower East Side. Shows happen in the basement, a small space with a capacity of 150 people, while the main bar is on the ground floor. Jeff Buckley, The Strokes, Arcade Fire, Lady Gaga, and Lana Del Rey performed on the small stage before they became famous. In the 2000s, the club hosted a residency by The Bravery that helped secure the band's record deal. Every week, a resident band hosts live karaoke nights. Still active.
