The Story

This store opened in 1976 as Academy Book Store, specializing in used books. In the 90s, owner Joseph GaNun expanded the business to also sell records, and the classical and jazz collection became so strong that today it is considered one of the best in the United States. Much of the stock comes from collections bought directly from city residents, unearthed by a team of employees with rare knowledge. It remains active, with another unit on 12th Street.
