The Story

The stretch of West 28th Street between Broadway and 6th Avenue where American popular music was invented. Irving Berlin, George Gershwin, Cole Porter and Jerome Kern all published here. The name came from the tinny sound of pianos playing from every open window simultaneously. A historical marker now commemorates the site.
