The Jacaranda Club

The Beatles, Stuart Sutcliffe

1958

The Story

Founded in 1958 by Allan Williams, the Beatles' first manager. The band regularly congregated here as teenagers; "One After 909" was written at a table inside. The basement was used as a rehearsal studio during the day, in exchange for the band redecorating the space with murals, painted by Stuart Sutcliffe and John Lennon, still visible today. It was also here that Allan Williams secured the band’s first Hamburg residency in 1960, the trip that transformed the band from a local group into a tight professional unit. The venue is still open.
