Lathom Hall

The Beatles, Stuart Sutcliffe

1960

The Story

This venue was built in 1884 and became a ballroom in the 1950s. On May 14, 1960, the band, still named Silver Beats, performed an audition during the intermission of another show and divided opinions. When they returned from Hamburg, the band returned to Lathom Hall several times between January and February 1961, already as The Beatles, totaling 11 performances at the venue. The original wooden stage from 1884, where the band performed, was removed during a renovation and sold at auction in 2020.
