The Story

This is the Berkeley street where the Bay Area thrash scene began. Teenagers would earn money mowing lawns and come here to trade tapes, read fanzines, and talk about the latest metal bands. Metallica's Kirk Hammett and Exodus' Gary Holt met here. Lars Ulrich used to hang out with the same group before Metallica existed. Ron Quintana, creator of the Metal Mania fanzine, was also part of this scene. The scene started on these sidewalks.
