Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Ronnie Scott, Jimi Hendrix

1959

The Story

Founded by saxophonist Ronnie Scott in 1959, moving to its current address on Frith Street, in Soho, in 1965, it is one of the greatest jazz clubs in the world. Jimi Hendrix made a surprise appearance on this stage on September 16, 1970, jamming with Eric Burdon and the band War. It was his last public performance before he died two days later. Miles Davis, Ella Fitzgerald, Count Basie, and Dizzy Gillespie have played here. Still active under its original name after more than six decades.
