The Story

The famous cover was photographed on Berwick Street, in Soho, in the early hours of a Sunday in 1995. The street was chosen for the density of its record and music stores. The two blurry figures in the photo are not the Gallagher brothers, as many think, but DJ Sean Rowley and art director Brian Cannon. Berwick Street has been the heart of London's record trade since the 1950s and remains one of the city's streets where vinyl culture is still alive.
